Site Overview

Whom is this site for?

Are you studying Cambridge's A Level course with General Paper as one of your subjects? Do you want to boost up your vocabulary? Or do you want to improve your English Language? If your answer to any of these questions is yes then this site is for you!

What is General Paper?

General Paper is an AS level multi-disciplinary subject, which can be studied in A Levels of Cambridge University. There are some variations of this paper which are given below:

Majority of the students attend the International syllabus: either General Paper 8004 or General Paper 8001. Paper 8004 requires you to write two essays, each from a different section whereas, Paper 8001 requires you to write one essay and solve a comprehension passage among the given alternatives.

General Paper 8009 is the Mauritian version and General Paper 8806 is the syllabus exclusive to Singapore, both of which are much similar to General Paper 8001. Both are localized to meet the specific needs of the students there and perhaps to adjust the time-zone difference.

Materials available in this site

The main aim of this site is to provide help, support and resources to the General Paper students so as to make them able to write good academic essays as required by the curriculum of General Paper. To meet this purpose the following resources are available in this site:

1. Sample GP Essays

The sample GP essays are available in two categories. Sample A graded Essays consist of 5 essays which scored A in the Cambridge examinations. These were provided to me by my GP instructor while I was doing A levels.

My Essays consists of the essays exclusively written by me. The total number of essays in this category has already crossed 24, and I’ll be adding more essays in the days to come.

2. Comprehension Passage Solutions

Just like the sample essays, the articles in this category are the sample solution of the comprehension questions of Paper 2 of 8001 syllabus. The questions of Mauritian and Singaporean Paper 2 are not much different. Therefore, this section will also be useful to the students of both countries.

3. GP Resources

This category contains the articles which provide some more information about General Paper. The articles type include General Paper Examination Tips, "how to" articles, GP Writing Skills and related articles.

4. Vocabulary

This section contains information about how to improve vocabularywhy is it important and so on. This section is useful for anyone who wants to improve their vocabulary.

5. Overview of GP in 30 Minutes

It is a brief presentation which can give you a full overview of General Paper as a subject of A Levels, it's different versions/syllabuses, which syllabus best suits you and the like.

Site Upgrade, Update and Navigation

This site has been upgraded to a blogger site. Now, you can search for posts by using the search box, and labels or tags in the sidebar. Probable Questions for October/November 2015

(Image Credit: Unknown) A continuity to the Tradition: Like in the past, I am attempting to predict (so to say) questions that could show up in the upcoming October/November examination of 2015. Disclaimer First: These predictions are in no way scientific or really probable. Justification: However, these could be some topics you could brainstorm and practice upon, in order to prepare for your General Paper exams.

Probable Question for Oct/Nov 2012

Disclaimer Notice First First of all, I would like to share something with you: I have tried to guess probable questions like this for four sessions with this one being the latest and in my past guess-works, what I have experienced is that most of the students blindly rely on them and prepare only on the topic areas listed here. And when the questions do not fall from the areas I have listed there they simply show aggression. One person wrote in my Facebook Group in a satirical manner that, “100% questions were asked from my predicted topics.” Now, read an article on another blog. Ms Adrienne de Souza writes how students get tricked by reading probable questions. She frankly says that her predictions have been wrong before , like mine! And I've always included "a note of warning/disclaimer" in each of the earlier predictions.

What is so special about A Graded Sample Essays?

The A Graded Essays from Cambridge University are the best resources an A level student can have. I recommend all the General Paper students to read these essays at least once prior to attending the CIE board exams. These essays are the most appropriate sample essays for GCE A Level students as these essays have scored "Grade A" in the CIE exam itself.
