"The ultimate goal of education is to earn money." Discuss.

Education is meant for the all round development of a person in terms of knowledge, skills and wisdom. In other words, it tries to make people capable and independent. Since being self-dependent requires, among other things, some sort of income to support our life, in a way, education prepares people to take a job in order to earn some money. However, education is also about being wise, ethical, moral and leading a better quality of life. Therefore, we cannot conclude that the ultimate goal of education is to earn money.

The professionals like doctors, engineers, pilots, lawyers, accountants, and so on had pursued specific education in their undergraduate and graduate levels of study. Education had equipped them with all the knowledge and skills required to take up such professions. Although, their profession provides services to the people in the society, it is done in return for their service fees. Therefore, on this ground we can conclude that education’s ultimate goal is to make money.

Apart from such specific professions, other service sectors offer jobs to the qualified persons. Such candidates are required to have certain level of educational qualifications. This is an example of people’s perception that educated people are more suitable for job. And job is all about earning a salary. Hence, education is about getting a job and earning a livelihood.

Besides, education makes people creative. The educated and knowledgeable people are more likely to perform innovative works such as inventing new devices, ideas and technologies. Similarly, they are more likely to contribute literary (poems, stories, novels) and artistic works (paintings, music, acting, and the like) to the society. In such cases too, monetary incentive plays a critical role especially in their dedication and motivation. Moreover, the more they earn the more successful (and famous) they are considered in their works. Thus, education makes people capable of earning lots of money through creative pursuits.

On the contrary, education can be useful to improve our living standard, and live a healthy life. A more knowledgeable person can leads a better life than a naive. Even if an uneducated person has a lot of money he might not have the knowledge about how to use the money wisely. Therefore, the goal of education is not only to earn money alone, but to teach people how to better spend the earned money to attain maximum advantages. From this perspective, the ultimate goal of education is to lead a better life.

Education conditions people to work for the welfare of the human beings. Even in doing a job, an educated person is more cautious or conscious about the impacts of what he does. An ignorant man might not know about the adverse impacts of his activities. Even if he knows, he might not care it. However, an educated man is likely to consider such impacts and pay heed to them. An educated man can be more responsible and accountable in his work. Therefore, education aims to make people accountable, ethical and moral.

In conclusion, education is not only about earning money. Even the uneducated people earn money as it is the basis for survival. Again, people cannot live a happy life just by earning lots of money. Moreover, the economic prosperity conflicts with leading a healthier. It is necessary to open factories, industries and other business activities at the expense of natural environment to achieve economic prosperity. However, such an excessive commercialization might have negative consequences upon our health and environment. Therefore, living a balanced life is necessary if we want sustainable happiness. The goal of education is probably to make us understand that trade-off and teach us how to achieve such a balanced life.

Probable Questions for October/November 2015

(Image Credit: Unknown) A continuity to the Tradition: Like in the past, I am attempting to predict (so to say) questions that could show up in the upcoming October/November examination of 2015. Disclaimer First: These predictions are in no way scientific or really probable. Justification: However, these could be some topics you could brainstorm and practice upon, in order to prepare for your General Paper exams.

Probable Question for Oct/Nov 2012

Disclaimer Notice First First of all, I would like to share something with you: I have tried to guess probable questions like this for four sessions with this one being the latest and in my past guess-works, what I have experienced is that most of the students blindly rely on them and prepare only on the topic areas listed here. And when the questions do not fall from the areas I have listed there they simply show aggression. One person wrote in my Facebook Group in a satirical manner that, “100% questions were asked from my predicted topics.” Now, read an article on another blog. Ms Adrienne de Souza writes how students get tricked by reading probable questions. She frankly says that her predictions have been wrong before , like mine! And I've always included "a note of warning/disclaimer" in each of the earlier predictions.

What is so special about A Graded Sample Essays?

The A Graded Essays from Cambridge University are the best resources an A level student can have. I recommend all the General Paper students to read these essays at least once prior to attending the CIE board exams. These essays are the most appropriate sample essays for GCE A Level students as these essays have scored "Grade A" in the CIE exam itself.
