How far is musical education vital to personal development?

Musical education refers to the education regarding music, playing musical instruments, and related knowledge. It is mainly targeted to develop music sensitivity and appreciation in children. The vitality and significant benefits of music have been confirmed by various researches, especially to refresh our mind, celebrate our success, and express our feelings. Thus, musical education is crucial for personal development of human beings.

Music is used in cultural and religious functions, ceremonies, etc. In Nepalese culture music is used in celebrating almost all the festivals. In Teej, the festival of women, women sing and dance for the whole day to observe that festival. Similarly, during Tihar, the festival in which sisters put “Tika” in their brother’s forehead; people sing and dance in traditional “Deusi Bhailo” songs. In marriage ceremonies, “Panche Baja”, the five musical instruments, are played on which people dance and enjoy. Similarly, during religious functions, known as “Puja”, people sing and dance in music known as “Bhajan”. Likewise, music has important roles in almost every culture. Music, along with the culture, play important roles in shaping the personality of people. Qualities like sociability, networking, confidence, etc. increase in people through such functions. Moreover, musical education makes children more compatible with the local culture and lifestyle, reduces the generation gap between parents or teachers and children, and thus forms a foundation for personal growth.

Music helps in relaxation of our mind and to calm down during the times of stress. Teaching music and its
benefits can allow the people to benefit tremendously from it in today’s hectic lifestyle. If children are given musical education right from their school life, they will have this knowledge already and will thus benefit in their later life. Similarly, music combined with yoga and meditation is best way to relax ourselves. Relaxation and stress management can prove pivotal for personal growth, including career growth, as today's adults as well as children have to deal with stress in every stage of their lives.

Music is a diverse, and highly dynamic activity. People have so much to do with music. People enjoy some part of music more than another. For example, some enjoy lyrics, others the melody, other the pleasant sounds of instruments and so on. So, if people are given musical education, then based upon their preferences they can indulge themselves in musical activities like singing, composing, playing instruments and so on. This kind of musical expression not only refreshes them but also boosts up their creativity and energy level. Thus, they can focus on their work with a higher spirit and enthusiasm after such activities, which ultimately helps them to succeed in their endeavour.

Every person is unique and different from others. People’s personality and nature can be highly diverged from each other creating incompatibilities and intolerance among them, especially in the today’s increasingly individualistic societies. Musical education, if given in the schools, can construct a commonplace for people to unite with other people from different backgrounds, different culture and thoughts. It is a common language that people from all backgrounds can comprehend and thus can accept and appreciate each other, despite their differences. As a result, a basis for socialization, group work and collaboration is formed – which in turn, is vital for personal growth.

Although, musical education is highly beneficial for personal development, it does not mean that there will be no personal growth in its absence. People with high level of esteem, determination and commitment can develop a good persona, can build up knowledge capital, and thus, grow. However, this approach requires more conscious effort, and careful planning, which is difficult for normal people. Thus, significance of musical education is high.

Concluding from the discussion above, musical education is vital for personal development. Music not only fosters creativity but is also useful to enjoy our success. It is undoubtedly entertaining, but at the same time, it makes us more sociable, more elated, and more cheerful. These qualities ultimately are vital for personal development. Hence, we can safely conclude that music forms a foundation for personal development.

Probable Questions for October/November 2015

(Image Credit: Unknown) A continuity to the Tradition: Like in the past, I am attempting to predict (so to say) questions that could show up in the upcoming October/November examination of 2015. Disclaimer First: These predictions are in no way scientific or really probable. Justification: However, these could be some topics you could brainstorm and practice upon, in order to prepare for your General Paper exams.

Probable Question for Oct/Nov 2012

Disclaimer Notice First First of all, I would like to share something with you: I have tried to guess probable questions like this for four sessions with this one being the latest and in my past guess-works, what I have experienced is that most of the students blindly rely on them and prepare only on the topic areas listed here. And when the questions do not fall from the areas I have listed there they simply show aggression. One person wrote in my Facebook Group in a satirical manner that, “100% questions were asked from my predicted topics.” Now, read an article on another blog. Ms Adrienne de Souza writes how students get tricked by reading probable questions. She frankly says that her predictions have been wrong before , like mine! And I've always included "a note of warning/disclaimer" in each of the earlier predictions.

What is so special about A Graded Sample Essays?

The A Graded Essays from Cambridge University are the best resources an A level student can have. I recommend all the General Paper students to read these essays at least once prior to attending the CIE board exams. These essays are the most appropriate sample essays for GCE A Level students as these essays have scored "Grade A" in the CIE exam itself.
