How far has the government been able to meet the expectation of people in your country?

In this kind of essay, it is preferable to write on one side with a balance paragraph, which means one or two paragraph on the another side to demonstrate your broader perspective on the topic. In other words, it is like writing for both side, but with greater weight for one side and lower weight for another side.

Actually, if you answer naturally then most probably your answer will be like that, rather than the other way around. That is because some governments are successful in meeting most of the expectations of its people, while some governments are successful to meet only a few expectations of its people. Still, these are not the only scenarios and you could come up with a number of other perspectives.


The answer has to entirely focus to the people's expectation from government of your country and how far those expectations have been met. For instance, my country is Nepal and hence my analysis will be based upon the analysis of Government of Nepal's ability to meet expectations of Nepalese people.

In your intro, your thesis statement might look like:

"In my country X, the government has been successful in maintaining healthy rate of infrastructural development, and good governance even though it could not maintain unemployment level below the promised rate of Y% (say 5%, for instance)."

So, you can discuss about government's expenditure on infrastructures:

"People expected the current government to build transport facilities, especially the electricity run trains, in all the major cities of the country in order to reduce transportation cost, carbon emission (or pollution), and road accidents due to road congestion. People's need in this area was fulfilled in due time by establishing the XYZ railway service and bringing it into operation."

You can similarly discuss on the areas of unemployment, inflation, tax policy, investment-friendly climate, education, health, and so on. Take up a simple topic that is relevant and explain the people's position, and the government's action regarding it. Give a final conclusion by assessing whether people's expectations have been materialised or not.
